19.Sira jemirenal ………….47 days to go

The Ethiopian Millennium has an official logo but I have never heard of it as having an official motto. So how about the title to this post? I think it summarizes what we have to do  for the next thousand years. And you know how countries are eager to host the olympics , world cup etc. I am not an economist :i can not explain how exactly. But such occasions have been known to boost economies.

We have been given a unique event without presenting  a proposal to a committee and beating anyone to it . I just wish that “esira mietu” jump starts our economy; and we get to keep the momentum from there on.

*In geez “esira”= 20 and miet=100 . I just can not get why we could not be using this name instead of …..

Iraq has gone  to the final of the Asian cup . It was nice to see the people celebrating at least for once . It was sad to see that there are people cruel enough to detonate bombs in the midst of rejoicing fans.

Insh Allah  they beat Saudi in Sunday’s final and get to celebrate another day.

i think the present situation is a civil war (which america refuses to accept ) that is being fought between the shites and the sunnis (sadam was a sunni). it was precipitated by the sadam years, the american presence, al qaeda ….

it is unsettling to know that they are unwilling to give each other the much needed break from the violence even during times like these. but what is even more unsettling is the fact that break or not , more people are going to die tomorrow and the day after.

i wish iraqis a lasting peace and a resolution to their problems, whatever they might be.

here comes football 101. no ,it was the asian cup final and they won it for the first time ever.

does not the whole thing go to show you that football is not just about 22 people kicking a ball and running with it ? there are much profound brain and emotional things involved:both on and off the pitch.
